The brand Valentino was named after its founder, the legendary Valentino Garavani who was born in Voghera, Italy, in 1932.  During his studies, this extremely talented man won the International Wool Secretariat, a prestigious designer competition.  Thanks to his success, he got an invitation from Jean Desses, a famous French fashion house which led to his collaboration with Guy Laroche.

Valentino once said “I know what all women want.  They want to be pretty.”  In 1960, he opened a salon on Via Condotti in Rome and introduced his first fashion collection which was met with great success.  Elisabeth Taylor admired Valentino’s work all her life.
